In this post, I share a blog I wrote for the company my husband contracts from, Forest Lake Chiropractic and Massage.
The brief was to write an article that showcases what clients can expect during their remedial massage treatment with Marko.
What does a remedial massage therapist do – and how can they help you?
The term ‘masseuse’ has often been used to describe those back-lane parlour workers who did a weekend course online. With a large number of emerging health practitioners, it’s easy to get confused about who to turn to when your body cries for help. Understanding what each therapist specialises in is the key to choosing the right one for your unique needs.
Remedial Massage Therapists ‘massage’ (obviously!)
Remedial massage therapists use manual treatments to assist the body in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. They use a systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body
In comparison to a relaxation massage, the treatment sessions are specific, targeted and when taken regularly provide relief from pain and tension.
Remedial Massage Therapists are Diploma qualified
Remedial massage therapists train under a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and gain a qualification under the Australian Quality Skills Framework.
They have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and the functional changes associated with and resulting from disease or injury– something called pathophysiology.
Remedial Massage Therapists use different techniques
If you need a relaxing massage, contact a therapist who will give you an effleurage heavy treatment. If you have ongoing pain or structural imbalances, working with a remedial massage therapist will help you strengthen weaker muscles and break up soft tissue build up from injury.
Some of the common techniques used by Remedial Massage Therapists include trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and deep tissue manipulation.
They work with their hands to release tension in your muscles for a variety of reasons such as lack of exercise in your daily life, excessive workouts at the gym or overuse from your physical labour job.
Remedial Massage Therapists tailor sessions to you
There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment in Remedial Massage. Each patient presents unique and personal symptoms which deserve special attention. A good Remedial Massage Therapist will take the time to assess your background, observe your structural alignment and create a treatment plan just for you.
So, is a Remedial Massage Therapist right for you?
We’re in business to treat people’s pain and help them feel better. At the end of the day all therapists have one goal in mind: To encourage patients to move in more effective ways, to offer relief for long-term discomfort or to empower you to live a happier life.
